Hello my name is Alan (Robert Alan Black). I live in Athens, Georgia when not traveling the world. I bought my first digital camera, an Olympus 5050 in 2003 when I was traveling completely around the world the 2nd time. Since 2001 I have taken 13 trips completely around the Earth and several separate trips to 1 to 10 to 30 totalling 93 countries and 49 US states.
You can see many of my photos on my
or on my
currently I am using a Canon Power Shot SX60 HS that I bought in Pretoria, South Africa in October 2107 when my previous RED Fuji DIED.
Since 1956 I have owned many different new and used cameras from my first Kodak Brownie to my Olympus SP-500UZ to my FUJI Finepix S1500 (2009) and others until 3 years ago when two very good friends, Francois and Rosalie Cloete offered me a gift of a camera of my choice from 3 different ones. I chose a RED Fuji.
My first digital (2003) was an Olympus 5050 bought based upon the recommendation by a long time professional photographer friend. He based his recommendation upon interviewing me for about 90 minutes about my photographic goals.
I learned a little about f stops, exposure settings and timing with my first 35mm that I bought used for $5 and took it with me along with 100 rolls of 35mm slide film with me on my 110 day trip around Europe in 1977.
Otherwise I know next to nothing about cameras except basics of point and shoot and continue to learn along the way. My strengths are composition and creativeness.
